How to Buy the One that's Right for You ? 1. Your old TV is normally a picture tube and circuitry which uses a NTSC tuner, which is an analog tuner system used to receive stations using 480i (i = interlaced) transmissions by various broadcasters governed by the National Television System(s) Committee. 480p (p = progressive) is the next enhancement called EDTV (enhanced-definition television). All DVDs will take on a new life with a progressive scan DVD Player used on an EDTV system or HDTV system. (see number 5.) 2. The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) is the group that helped to develop the new digital television standard for the United States. It is intended to replace the NTSC system and produce wide screen 16:9 images up to 1920×1080 pixels in size—more than six times the display resolution of the earlier standard. (HD Starts at 720p then 1080i then 1080p) 3. An HDTV must display true HD (high definition) resolution on the screen, not just receive it. You must have a minimum HD display of 720p (p = progressive)(1280 x 720 pixels); HD peaks at 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels). If the HD manufacturer does not have an ATSC tuner listed it maybe a HD monitor and you must have an external source that will pass the HD digital inputs of 720p, 1080i and 1080p by way of direct HD video and audio inputs. Just because a manufacturer tells you their TV accepts 720p or 1080i it does not mean it will display HD unless the display itself is a minimum of 1280 x 720 pixels of resolution. As a note: Some HDTV broadcasting stations are having problems with their quality of the high definition sourcing, don't expect the magic from all broadcasters. Your new TV could be around for 10 to 20 years, plan accordingly, EDTV or HDTV? 4. Signal Input? There are only two major companies for satellite dishes, the dish network and direct tv they provide NTSC and ATSC tuners in their free equipment package and HD recording devices. Their digital equipment can provide the video and audio inputs at 720p and higher progressions using cables to HD inputs. So, an HDTV monitor maybe all you need. To receive free HDTV from local broadcasters your HDTV must have a built-in ATSC tuner to display HD. As a dish note: you should first check to see if there are any regulations about antennas on the home/apartment you live in; some landlords demand cable hookups and some gated communities just ban them. There are too many independent cables companies to explain advantages and disadvantages, contact them directly. 5. An EDTV is a display that projects an image at 480p. This is normally a display with a pixel value of a least 600 x 480 pixels. A standard TV can not produce a 480p output so you need at least a progressive scan DVD player and an EDTV or higher equivalent resolution to see the results of this improved technology. Almost all of the DVDs that we rent today will play the 480 progressive scan format on an EDTV or higher equivalent resolution if you have a progressive scan DVD player; the quality is so good many people think they are watching HD when in reality they are not. As a note: You'll have to get use to aspect ratio changing because of all the different formats; if you view a 4:3 aspect ratio or view a standard broadcast signal in the 16:9 aspect ratio, the people will normally have short legs and wider bodies. Selection of screen size is common because of this. Panorama and cinema views offer more options. 6. There are many technological differences between a LCD and Plasma TV, but here's a quick summary: LCD's advantages: brighter, lighter, less power consumption, longer life, and no burn images - disadvantages: blur affects or slower refresh, less contrast ratio, little less viewing angle, and less color reproduction. Naturally the reverse statements would hold true for plasma TVs. All the differences are narrowing with the new models. LCD and Plasma (sizes 27" -42") usually weigh less than 100 pounds and are less awkward then an old 19" TV; UPS deliveries these lighter ones right to your door. 7. Then there is the HD flat screen monitor, direct view, or flat panel; using a CRT (cathode ray tube) which has for many years been our computer monitor of choice. The advantages of a CRT HDTV are: inexpensive, multi-sync capable, high refresh rates, and great color and depth. The disadvantages are: large physical depth, heavy, excessive heat, large power consumption, and limited to about a 36" screen size because any bigger with not fit through a door and the weight is about 200 lbs. As a note: It is sometimes tough to determine true resolution because manufacturers rarely give it even though they maybe displaying 1920 x 1080 resolution; if it's not listed call the company to be sure. 8. A Digital Projection unit is for those that demand a theater room in a low light room with a super size theater picture. Usually you will want to mount this unit on the ceiling to avoid interference of the viewing area. If you are looking for a movie theater affect at home, it is possible. Consider this if you have a special low light room because light will be your enemy, even with a $10,000 unit. 9. DLP projections have been around for a few years. The DLP projections have a high contrast ratio. Mirrors and special bulbs are used in these units. Texas Instruments originally developed this system. One thing you should be aware of is - expect a lamp replacement around 5000 hours; cost could be around $500.00. The big old rear projections should be a thing of the past and you would certainly not want to hook up a PC to one of these units. There is no history yet for the DLP bulb life and little history is available for the florescent bulbs in LCDs and Plasmas but most believe the florescent bulbs will last 60,000 hours or about 27 years at 6 hours per day. 10. If you are connecting a pc to a HDTV make sure it has a 15 pin or VGA input, anything else is not acceptable. A S-video input is composite video normally just a 480i display, don't even think about hooking up a pc this way with any acceptable resolution. Any questions? - email to: admin@bysellrent.com.

Customer reviews summary: After card was charged buy.com I had this TV at the door in three days. One disadvantage is that you must use the mini headphone jack as your audio output but sound is still good if you not running an amp; an advantage of this is that the volume level and mute works with the Norcent remote control connected properly to an amp. All you need is a Radio Shack stereo mini adaptor with a pair of RCA male connectors. Picture is excellent and picture select for 16:9, 4:3, Panorama, and Cinema offers excellent options for the variable inputs. The refresh rate is adequate but still needs improvement. No one is disappointed on picture quality and no one has found a better price. Warranty Info: http://www.norcent.net/main/support_warranty_plasma.asp
